James E. Walton, Ph.D. speaks at West Hills College Coalinga
James E. Walton, Ph.D., English professor and chair of the English department at California State University, Fresno, will speak at West Hills College Coalinga in celebration of Black History Month.
The colleges' theme for Black History Month is "Black America: Past, Present and Future," Walton will speak on issues surrounding that theme. He is slated to speak Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at 7 p.m. in Everett Hall.
Walton began his career at CSUF in 1990 as a full time English professor. He also served as the chair of the ethnic studies department at CSUF from 1998 to 2002.
In 2003, Walton was a visiting professor at Konkuk University in Seoul Korea.
Walton taught at Mount Union College from 1970 to 1990. In 1988, he was an exchange professor at Baika Women's College in Osaka, Japan.
Walton received his bachelor's degree from Kent State University and his master's degree and doctorate from the University of Akron. He was awarded a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
His major publications include the International Journal of African Studies, The African American Encyclopedia, Oxygen, Popular Musicians, Approaches to Teaching Ellison's Invisible Man (MLA), the English Language Arts Bulletin, and the College Language Association Journal.
