West Hills College board appoints bond oversight committee for the Lemoore area

With the passage of a $31million local higher education bond last June, the West Hills Community College District is required by law to establish a committee of local citizens to oversee spending of the bond proceeds.

Chancellor Frank Gornick said that the committee members include:

  • Lynda Lahodny, a member of the Lemoore Chamber of Commerce, a representative of a business organization.

Gornick also said that there must be a minimum of two members of the community-at-large.  Filling those positions are:

  • James (Buddy) Brooks, retired superintendent of Riverdale Unified School District.
  • Sally Day, committee member of downtown revitalization committee.
  • Tom Hernandez, representative from the Tulare/Kings County American Red Cross.

The group is required to meet at least once each year to review bond projects and expenditures.  Gornick said he anticipates that the board may actually meet more frequently than that due to a high level of local interest in the college and its projects.

The committee is still missing representatives from specific interest groups including senior citizens, students, college organizations and bona-fide taxpayer’s association. Anyone interested in serving is invited to contact his office at 559.934.2102 or email donnaisaac@whccd.edu.
