How soon will we see bond proceeds construction at North District Center? What are the first projects planned?
Great question.
At the last board meeting, the board authorized a $4 million sale (of the $11 million total) of our bonds in the North District SFID#1. This will allow us to make major upgrades to the existing facility in Firebaugh. Those upgrades include electrical and plumbing as well as technology. Additionally, there will be significant internal redesign of the classroom and student space. We are also looking to acquire some property for expansion as well as assisting the City of Firebaugh with some soccer field expansion. There is activity planned in Mendota with the West Side Institute of Technology as we look for a permanent home for this activity. In San Joaquin, we want to begin leasing space to offer some courses in the near future. We are also having discussions with the Fresno County Library folks about a joint use project in Firebaugh.
Dr. Lewallen and his staff have been working with our district architect and we recently appointed the Citizens Advisory Committee for SFID #1. You can read all about them on our Web site, under the chancellor’s page.
